A distributed obstacle avoidance MPC strategy for leader-follower formations

چکیده
In this paper we address the obstacle avoidance motion planning problem for leader-follower vehicles configurations operating in static environments. By resorting to settheoretic ideas, a receding horizon control algorithm is proposed for robots modelled by linear time-invariant (LTI) systems subject to input and state constraints. Terminal robust positively invariant regions and sequences of precomputed inner approximations of the one-step controllable sets are on-line exploited to compute the commands to be applied in a receding horizon fashion. Moreover, we prove that the design of both terminal sets and one-step ahead controllable regions is achieved in a distributed sense. An illustrative example is used to show the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

A 3D extension of the leader–follower approach of formation trajectory planning, applicable for a formation of autonomous quad–rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, is presented in this thesis. The proposed trajectory planning approach is based on the Model Predictive Control (MPC) method. The implemented system is suitable for deployment of groups of flying robots in environment with static as well ...

Vision-based formation control of multiple agents, such as mobile robots or fully-autonomous cars, has recently received great interest due to its application in robotic networks and automated highways. This paper addresses the cooperative motion coordination of leader-follower formations of nonholonomic mobile robots, under visibility and communication constraints in known polygonal obstacle e...

A model predictive control based algorithm for maintenance of leader-follower formations of micro-scale aerial vehicles is proposed in this paper. The approach is designed for stabilization of teams of unmanned quadrotor helicopters and for their motion planning into a distant target region. The presented method of the model predictive control with a planning horizon enables integration of an o...
متن کاملStabilization of Nonholonomic Robot Formations: A First-state Contractive Model Predictive Control Approach
A model predictive control algorithm is developed for stabilizing a team of nonholonomic mobile robots navigating in formation within an obstacle-populated environment. In this scenario, the leader robot may need to execute abrupt maneuvers (i.e., sudden stops and backward motions) in order to avoid collisions and accomplish mission objectives. Moreover, follower robots should be capable of tra...
متن کاملDecentralized Hybrid Model Predictive Control of a Formation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
This paper proposes a hierarchical MPC strategy for autonomous navigation of a formation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of quadcopter type under obstacle and collision avoidance constraints. Each vehicle is stabilized by a lower-level local linear MPC controller around a desired position, that is generated, at a slower sampling rate, by a hybrid MPC controller per vehicle. Such an upper con...
